Mitsuwa Haul: Bento Accessories!

With Kenzie almost in pre-k, it’s time for me to start packing her lunches.  I’m a fan of the philosophy behind Japanese “obento,” a term that means lunch, but that also describes what lunch should be: healthy and visually appealing.   I’ve always been one to make my own lunch, but I was usually more focused on convenience and speed. Bento lunches take quite a bit more planning and creativity. It’s definitely about the food, but it’s also about the visual experience.  There are specialized, yet inexpensive tools that you can use to create panda shaped rice balls; bunny shaped eggs; happy, smiley sandwiches.  Here’s a quick haul video where I share some of my most recent purchases at Mitsuwa, a Japanese grocery store in the suburbs of Chicago.

And here’s a price list of the items I purchased.  The prices are as listed on September 28, 2017. I’ve also linked to them on Amazon where possible.  (If you purchase through my link, I’ll earn a small commission, thanks for subsidizing me!)
